Biography
Birth of Maria Concetta Farani in Brazil, daughter of Italian immigrants, and family hardships following the death of her father.
Maria Concetta Farani (in religion Sister Antonietta of Saint Michael the Archangel) was born on July 29, 1906, in Curitiba, Brazil. The daughter of Italian immigrants, her family lived in comfort until the sudden death of her father in 1913. Victim of a family fraud, the family was stripped of its assets and plunged into poverty. Maria Concetta had to interrupt her studies to work as a teacher from her adolescence.

Marked by injustice, Maria Concetta sincerely forgave her uncle and aunt, which guided her spiritual life. In 1927, she entered the Passionist Sisters of Saint Paul of the Cross and took the name Sister Antonietta of Saint Michael the Archangel. She held various responsibilities: novice mistress, school principal, and superior of hospitals and asylums, dedicating herself to the poor, the sick, and prisoners. In 1963, she became provincial superior.
Path to holiness
Illness accepted with serenity, death in the odor of sanctity, and the opening of her cause for beatification.
Afflicted with a brain tumor that left her blind and paralyzed, Sister Antonietta welcomed the trial with joy and offered herself as a victim of love. She died on May 7, 1963, in São Paulo. Her reputation for holiness spread rapidly, leading to the opening of her cause for beatification in the Archdiocese of São Paulo, for which the diocesan inquiry was validated in 1986.
