Biography
Youth of Louise Joséphine Voiron in Savoy, marked by her early healing, the loss of her mother, and her religious vocation.
Louise Joséphine Voiron was born on April 6, 1835, in Chambéry, Savoy (France). The eldest of five children in a family of Christian market gardeners, she was healed of paralysis at the age of three following a pilgrimage to Notre-Dame de Myans. Orphaned of her mother at age ten, she assumed heavy family responsibilities while studying with the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Chambéry. At fifteen, she chose to dedicate her life to God.
Life and Work
Entry into religious life, departure for Brazil in 1859, foundation of schools and hospitals, and leadership of the Brazilian province.
Entering the novitiate in 1852 under the name Sister Marie-Théodore, she volunteered in 1859 for a mission in São Paulo, Brazil. She settled in Itu where she founded the Colégio Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio, the first boarding school for young girls in the state, integrating into it as early as 1864 a free class for poor girls without distinction of color. She also founded a hospital in 1867 and became provincial superior in 1873. She received the Legion of Honor around 1918-1919 and passed away on July 17, 1925, in Itu.

After her death, her reputation for holiness spread rapidly throughout the State of São Paulo. A diocesan informative process was opened by the Archdiocese of São Paulo from 1942 to 1950. Her remains were the subject of three canonical exhumations in 1946, 1970, and 1998, the date on which her relics were transferred to the Church of Our Lady of Patronage in Itu.
Beatification and canonization
Introduction of her cause in Rome and recognition of the heroic nature of her virtues by John Paul II.
The cause for beatification was introduced in Rome on December 10, 1964. The apostolic process took place from 1967 to 1971. On February 18, 1989, Pope John Paul II signed the decree recognizing the heroic nature of her virtues, conferring upon her the title of Venerable. The cause awaits the recognition of a miracle for her beatification.

Spirituality centered on active charity and contemporary tributes in Itu.
Her spirituality is based on the charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, focused on communion and active charity towards the destitute. Her legacy is celebrated every year in Itu during the 'Semana Madre Maria Teodora' (from May 18 to 24), and the municipality awards a medal in her name to honor social and educational actions.
