Biography
Youth of Margherita Allegri in Firenzuola, the episode of the 1658 earthquake, and her entry into religious life in Florence.
Margherita Allegri was born on April 26, 1651, in Firenzuola, Italy. The daughter of Benedetto Allegri and Maria Nencetti, she was baptized the same day. In 1658, at the age of seven, she miraculously survived a violent earthquake that struck her town, claiming to have been carried by her guardian angel while her room remained intact. She then made the prediction: "Firenzuola will be shaken but not struck." Despite the initial opposition of her father, who wished to marry her off, she first entered the Camaldolese monastery of San Giovanni Evangelista di Boldrone in 1671, then joined the monastery of the "Stabilite nella Carità" in Florence on June 23, 1672.

She pronounced her vow of stability after following the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, centering her spirituality on the mystery of the Incarnation. She manifested extraordinary mystical gifts: ecstasies, visions, prophecies, and the reading of hearts. On March 3, 1677, she received the stigmata of the Passion of Christ, a phenomenon examined and attested to by the physician Francesco Redi, who was sent by Princess Violante of Bavaria. Afflicted with tuberculosis, she offered up her sufferings and died on December 17, 1677, at the age of 26.
