Biography

Hermínio Pinzetta was born on July 27, 1911, in Casca, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (the official decree in Latin mentions July 29, 1911). The second of thirteen children of Fiorentino Pinzetta and Isabella Romani, a family of pious farmers of Italian origin, he led a simple life from childhood, punctuated by work on the land and daily prayer. He helped his parents for more than thirty years with farm work and distinguished himself by his gentleness and devotion.
Life and work
Entry into the Capuchins and humble service in Flores da Cunha.
In July 1943, after confessing to Father Alberto Stawinski, Hermínio discerned his vocation and entered the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. He took the name Brother Salvador of Casca. He made his perpetual vows in 1949. At the convent of Flores da Cunha, he humbly assumed simple tasks as cook, gardener, beekeeper, and porter. In 1970, he was appointed the first extraordinary minister of the Eucharist of the Diocese of Caxias do Sul by Bishop Benedito Zorzi, dedicating himself to visiting the sick.

On May 31, 1972, Brother Salvador died of a stroke in Flores da Cunha at the age of 60. His reputation for holiness led to the opening of his cause for beatification in 1977 under the impetus of Father Pascoal Rywalski. Relaunched in 2007 with Bishop Ângelo Domingos Salvador as vice-postulator, the diocesan process officially opened in 2011 and closed in 2012, transmitting the file to Rome.

On June 5, 2018, the Congress of Theologians of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints unanimously approved the heroism of his virtues. On May 13, 2019, Pope Francis authorized the promulgation of the decree recognizing his heroic virtues, conferring upon him the title of venerable. On July 27, 2020, a diocesan inquiry was opened regarding an alleged miracle attributed to his intercession.

The life of Brother Salvador is characterized by his motto: "Modestia, oratio, labor" (Modesty, prayer, work), embodying the Franciscan ideal. Every year, thousands of pilgrims participate in the Romaria Vocacional to his hermitage in Flores da Cunha. His mortal remains have rested since 1988 in the parish church of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes in Flores da Cunha.
