    Biography

    Youth, formation, and vocation of Magín Morera y Feixas within the Sons of the Holy Family.

    Magín Morera y Feixas was born on November 16, 1908, in Castelltallat, Spain. Having lost his father at a very young age, he was raised by his mother in a rigorous faith. In 1919, he entered the college for poor orphans in Sant Julià de Vilatorta, directed by the Congregation of the Sons of the Holy Family, where his vocation was born. After studies in Blanes and Barcelona, he made his perpetual vows in 1933 and was ordained a priest on November 1 of the same year in Tortosa.

    Father Magín's priestly ministry, marked by the Spanish Civil War, his responsibilities in Rome, and his dedication to the poor.

    During the Spanish Civil War in 1936, Father Magín was arrested but escaped martyrdom. He continued his ministry in hiding in Manresa before being sent to Italy, where he became master of novices in Chieti, then superior and parish priest in Rome. Elected superior general of his congregation in 1958 for two terms, he then chose to dedicate himself to the most destitute in Madrid (Hortaleza) in 1970. After a third term as superior general, he left for a mission in Brazil in 1982 as a parish priest in Curitiba.

    Afflicted with cancer and losing his sight, Father Magín returned to Barcelona. He spent his final years there at the Holy Family seminary, offering a testimony of patience and serenity. He passed away on June 28, 1984, at the age of 75. His remains rest today in the parish of San José Manyanet in Barcelona.

    The cause for beatification was opened in Barcelona in 2004. On October 9, 2017, Pope Francis authorized the promulgation of the decree recognizing the heroic nature of his virtues, thereby declaring him venerable.
