Biography
Birth, youth, and entry into religious life of Maria Orsola Rivata.
Orsola Maria Rivata was born on July 12, 1897, in Guarene, Italy. The eldest of four children, she lost her mother in 1903. Coming from a modest background, she worked in the fields and later as a laborer in a silk factory. At the age of twenty, she refused marriage to dedicate herself to God. She met Father Giacomo Alberione and entered the Pious Disciples of the Divine Master on July 29, 1922.

On February 10, 1924, Father Alberione founded the Pious Disciples of the Divine Master and chose Orsola as the first superior under the name Sister Maria Scolastica. She dedicated herself to the formation of the sisters. Removed from office in 1947, she accepted this trial with humility. In 1948, she left for Argentina as mistress of novices, where she spent fifteen years before returning to Italy in 1963.

Upon returning to Italy, she lived humbly in various communities. In 1981, she joined the community of Sanfrè. Struck by paralysis in 1984, she lost the use of speech and lived her illness in silence and joy. She passed away on March 24, 1987, in Sanfrè at the age of 89.

Her cause for beatification opened on December 9, 1993. On December 9, 2013, Pope Francis authorized the promulgation of the decree recognizing the heroic nature of her virtues, granting her the title of Venerable.
