Biography
Birth of Luigi Bosio in 1909 in Avesa, his modest childhood, his studies at the seminary of Verona, and his priestly ordination in 1931.
Luigi Santo Bosio was born on April 10, 1909, in Avesa, a small village on the outskirts of Verona, Italy. He was the fourth of five children of Umberto Bosio, a train boiler fitter, and Regina Avesani, a washerwoman. Baptized under the name Luigi Vittorio, he received the name Luigi in memory of an older brother who had passed away. Coming from a modest family, he was materially supported by his teacher, Father Lino Chiaffoni, to continue his studies. Attracted to the Benedictine contemplative life, he was directed toward the diocesan seminary of Verona in 1919. After a retreat at the Benedictine monastery of Praglia, which strengthened his contemplative spirit, he was ordained a priest on November 1, 1931, by Bishop Mgr. Girolamo Cardinale.
