Biography
The life of José Gras Granollers, from his birth in Catalonia to his priestly ministry and his establishment in Granada.
José Gras Granollers was born on January 22, 1834, in Agramunt, Spain, into a modest farming family. At the age of 13, he traveled to the seminary of Barcelona on foot. Ordained a priest on March 20, 1858, he taught dogmatic theology in Tarragona, worked as a tutor in Madrid and Écija, and served as a vicar in Barcelona. In 1866, he obtained a canonry at the Abbey of the Sacromonte in Granada, where he taught ecclesiastical history and law until his death on July 7, 1918.

On May 26, 1876, José Gras founded the Institute of the Daughters of Christ the King in Granada to promote Christian education in the face of secularism. He was assisted by Isabel Gómez Rodríguez (Mother Inés de Jesús), the first Superior General. The institute received definitive pontifical approval from Leo XIII on August 16, 1901. At the same time, he founded the Academia y Corte de Cristo association in 1866 and created the magazine El Bien in 1867 to defend the social kingship of Christ.
