    Biography

    Youth, family, and priestly ordination of Petro Pavlo Oros.

    Petro Pavlo Oros was born on July 14, 1917, in Biri, Hungary, into a family with a priestly tradition. Orphaned of his father at one year old and his mother at nine, he was raised by Greek Catholic priestly families. He entered the Uzhhorod seminary in 1937 and was ordained a priest on June 18, 1942, by Bishop Oleksandr Stoyka.

    Life and Work

    Pastoral ministry and resistance to the Soviet occupation.

    Appointed vicar in Velyki Komyaty and Maly Komyaty, he devoted himself to the poor. After the annexation of Transcarpathia by the USSR, he refused to join the Russian Orthodox Church imposed by the regime. Despite the banning of the Greek Catholic cult in 1949, he continued his ministry in the underground.

    Path to holiness

    Arrest, execution, and concealment of Father Oros's body.

    Wanted by the Soviet secret services, Father Oros was intercepted on August 28, 1953, near the Siltse train station and summarily executed by a police officer. To prevent any veneration, the authorities hid his body under the concrete floor of a police garage.

    Beatification and canonization

    Rediscovery of his relics and solemn beatification in 2025.

    After the fall of the USSR, his body was found and transferred to Bilky. His martyrdom was recognized by Pope Francis in 2022. He was solemnly beatified on September 27, 2025, in Bilky by Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś, legate of Pope Leo XIV.
