Biography
Youth, first communion, and a foundational Marian apparition in Imèr.
Clotilde Micheli was born on September 11, 1849, in Imèr, in the Trentino region, into a modest Christian family. Her parents were Domenico Micheli and Anna Maria Orsingher. In 1852, she received confirmation from Bishop Johann Nepomuk von Tschiderer. During her first communion at Easter in 1859, she felt an attraction to religious life. On August 2, 1867, she experienced an apparition of the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels in the parish church of Imèr, revealing to her the mission to found a new religious family dedicated to the adoration of the Holy Trinity.
Life and Work
The journey toward the foundation of the Institute of the Sisters of the Angels in Campania.
To avoid an arranged marriage, Clotilde left Trentino for Venice, under the guidance of Msgr. Domenico Agostini, then Padua under that of Msgr. Angelo Piacentini. After an unsuccessful attempt in Castellavazzo, she joined her parents in Germany and worked as a nurse in Eppendorf. Upon returning to Italy, after a pilgrimage to Rome, she settled in Campania. On June 28, 1891, in Casolla, she founded the Institute of the Sisters of the Angels, Adorers of the Most Holy Trinity, taking the name Sister Maria Serafina of the Sacred Heart. The institute expanded with the Lucarelli orphanage in Santa Maria Capua Vetere in 1893, then established itself in Faicchio in 1899.
