Biography
Childhood of Franciszka Siedliska in Poland, her decisive meeting with Father Leander Lendzian, and her promise to dedicate herself to God despite her father's opposition.
Franciszka Siedliska was born on November 12, 1842, in Roszkowa Wola, Poland, into a wealthy noble family indifferent to the faith. Suffering from a serious spinal illness during her childhood, she traveled throughout Europe for treatment. In November 1854, her meeting in Warsaw with the Capuchin priest Leander Lendzian was decisive: he prepared her for her first communion, which she received on May 1, 1855, awakening a religious vocation within her. Despite the fierce opposition of her father, she made a private vow of chastity in Cannes in 1864, while remaining with her family until her father's death in 1870, after which she joined the Third Order of Saint Francis.

Foundation of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Rome and international expansion of the institute in Poland, the United States, France, and England.
In 1873, encouraged by Pope Pius IX, Franciszka Siedliska laid the foundations for her institute. She pronounced her solemn vows on May 1, 1884, under the name Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd. The institute developed rapidly: a house opened in Krakow in 1881, followed by one in Chicago in 1885 to support Polish emigrants. Franciszka traveled several times to the United States to organize these foundations. She also established communities in Paris in 1892 and in London in 1895. At the time of her death in 1902, the congregation numbered 29 houses and approximately 300 religious sisters.
