Life and death

Resurrections Attributed to Saints

In this category, a person is presented as dead before a return to life is attributed to a saint's prayer, word, or intercession. The account may concern a relative, a child, a drowned traveler, or a member of the community. Resurrection occupies a special place in Christian hagiography because it refers directly to the central hope of faith and often serves as a sign of conversion for witnesses. The page excludes healings of people who are only dying or unconscious when the source does not speak of death. Children returned briefly to life to receive baptism also have a distinct theme, linked to "respite." Each episode must therefore be read according to its own words and level of tradition. Sancteo gathers them for comparative study, without ruling on the historical or medical criteria of the reported death.
