Miracles of Restored Mobility

Accounts of restored mobility concern people described as paralyzed, lame, immobilized, or deprived of the use of a limb. In hagiography, the change may follow a prayer, a blessing, the passage of a procession, or a visit to a tomb. The gesture of rising and walking then serves as a visible sign, understood by the witnesses of the account as a restoration of the person and sometimes of their place in the community. This category does not gather all healings: it requires that the movement, legs, or limbs be explicitly at the heart of the episode. It is also distinguished from resurrections, where the person is presented as dead before their return to life.
