Births Presented as Miraculous

A miraculous birth is an account in which the coming into the world of a child is itself presented as an exceptional sign. The motif may follow a conception deemed impossible, a celestial announcement, or circumstances that the source understands as providential. In biblical and hagiographic texts, it often serves to announce the child's future mission. The category remains intentionally narrow: a pregnancy marked by a sign belongs to the "pregnancy" theme, and a dangerous labor aided by intercession belongs to "childbirth." Likewise, every birth after a long wait is not classified here if the account focuses primarily on fertility. The small corpus gathers biblical figures and saints whose origin has been re-read in the light of their vocation. The page explains this narrative construction without presenting the religious exception as a biological or obstetric notion.

This motif is sparsely represented in the Sancteo corpus.
